O regulador:

O motor:

O truque da anilha:

O leitor a funcionar lindamente:

This nice 7 disc changer came to me as supposedly unable to load and change discs. The owner, a neighbour of mine, had tried to fix it himself but quickly discovered that he didn't have enough knowledge. The problem with this: he left the screws loosely inside...

So, before being able to test it I first had to find and take out all loose screws. That was hard but I managed. Unfortunately, when I finally tried to switch it on, it seemed dead on arrival... He must have switched it on when the screws were already inside...

A quick measuring of all supply rails made me find the problem: the +5V rail was gone. Another measurement confirmed that the 7805 regulator was burned. I changed it and the cd player went back to life. But in fact it wouldn't load or even play discs.

I looked for obvious things and was lucky: I found that the wires of the disc load motor were disconnected. Don't know how this had happened, but then again, I'm not a detective.

So, I soldered them back to where they belong and all went back to normal: discs loading, changing and playing. It was playing slightly off center, with vibrations and noise, though, which was not only unpleasant but could give read errors. So I improvised and installed a little washer to center the shaft of the cd mechanism on top where it holds the disc down and this worked just fine.

I also took the opportunity and did the usual maintenance: change belts and lubricate, done! Have a look at the pics above.
